A Good Hair Day Since 1986

At IdHAIR, we are known for ID Hair Wax – our very first creation in a small round jar with a black lid... It was this product that truly put IdHAIR on the map in the late '90s and subsequently the world map, but in fact, we have been in the industry since 1986. Join us on the journey that starts in modest premises in the heart of Aarhus.

A Dream is Born in Aarhus

The inception of what we know today as IdHAIR – a supplier and manufacturer of hair products – happened in 1986 when Preben Munch, along with a partner, started a wholesale business selling hairdresser products in the heart of Aarhus. With a down-to-earth Jutlandic approach and a dream to put the customer first, the business quickly outgrew its initial scope.

From Brabrand to Lystrup, the warehouse and staff grew larger while Preben worked tirelessly to deliver top-class hair products. That’s how the adventure began! IdHAIR was born with a vision of personal service and a passion for hairdressing products!

We launched 'Id Wax,' which took Denmark by storm. Original Wax hit the mark with a unique formula that stood out from many other products on the market. It provided a strong hold and was ideal for the hairstyles of the time, which required precision and long-lasting hold.

We secured our first foreign order, and Norway became the first country for our export adventure. With this exciting milestone, we took our first steps towards international growth and looked forward to new opportunities and collaborations across borders.

Based on our successful hair wax, which has received a new design, we have now changed our name to IdHAIR. The name change also highlights the direction we have set – to become a full-service supplier of hair products under our own brand.

With our own factory, we now had entirely new opportunities to develop and produce hair products of the highest quality and strengthen our position in the hair care industry.

We Launch IdHAIR Hair Paint and IdHAIR ColourID

After several years of preparation and development, we launched our first colour systems. We named the two colour systems IdHAIR Hair Paint – a traditional colour system – and ColourID – a milder system, which has now been discontinued. IdHAIR Paint has since been further developed.

We moved into our current premises in a 4000 m² building, executed in typical Danish minimalist style, with Danish designer furniture, a large studio where hairdressers are taught the latest cutting and colouring techniques, and a huge cinema where we often host exciting shows and courses for hairdressers… And, of course, a massive warehouse where all our many products are stored and shipped from.

Among the many products in our warehouse, you will now also find IdHAIR Elements - our first complete hair care and styling series. That same year, IdHAIR Elements won the Red Dot Design Award.

Our very first permanent system. Amino Wave is a unique skin- and hair-friendly permanent wave that does not contain ammonia and provides the most beautiful curls and waves that last a long time in a very gentle way.

Innovative colour treatments make their debut in our range. The colour treatments from Colour Bomb both colour and care for the hair while giving it a beautiful and healthy appearance. At the same time, we welcome Ego Professional, which is now part of the IdHAIR Group. With Ego Professional on the team, we can now also offer advanced styling tools in our range.

We experienced significant growth in 2014 with the launch of three hair series: IdHAIR Belonger – a hair care and styling series for long hair and extensions, IdHAIR Curly hair products for curly hair, and IdHAIR Black – a hair care and styling series for men. IdHAIR Hair Paint was further developed and received a new design.

From Local Wholesaler to Global Supplier

Our success in producing and selling our own brands grew. We more than doubled the number of export countries from 13 countries in 2014 to 31 countries in 2015, including Australia, South Africa, the USA, Poland, and Russia. Additionally, we launched two new series: IdHAIR Pow’r – a direct colour cream – and IdHAIR Niophlex – a phlex system that counteracts hair damage during permanent treatments.

With three new hair series in 2016, scalp problems became a thing of the past with IdHAIR Solutions, while the styling products from IdHAIR Mé gave both men and women the chance to have a good hair day, and the mild colour system from IdHAIR Hair Paint Free allowed hairdressers to dye consumers' manes with hair colours free from ammonia, resorcinol, and PPD.

We Launch Black Magic and Open New Premises in the Capital Area

To be even closer to our customers, we opened new premises in Rødovre. The same year, we launched IdHAIR Black Magic – an amino permanent system that is gentle on the hair and scalp and has a pleasant scent.

We Acquire 16 Danish Hair Salons and Launch IdHAIR Elements Xclusive

With the acquisition of 16 hair salons under the brand Poul M, we now employ 150 people in Denmark across production, development, sales, and salons. In 2018, we also launched IdHAIR Elements Xclusive – a complete series with styling and care for the hair.

We launched Gloss, a demi-permanent colour system, which delivers fantastic, beautiful colour results quickly.

We Launch Professional Scissors, Fragrance-Free Series, and We Sanitise

We launched the professional scissor series, Sainō, and started a fragrance-free paradise for the hair with our IdHAIR Sensitive Xclusive, our new fragrance-free hair care and styling series. With the Corona epidemic, there arose a greater need for sanitising in salons, and therefore we developed KLEAN – a hand sanitiser with a fresh scent.

New Formula and Look for Hair Paint, Frame Styler Manufactured

The IdHAIR Hair Paint colour system was further developed with a new Organic Care Complex, which provides the hair with plenty of care while being coloured. The design of the colour tubes also received a makeover.

Additionally, we launched the IdHAIR Frame Styler with revolutionary ceramic single-stroke plates, which, combined with tourmaline, Teflon, titanium, and oils, deliver perfect results and healthier hair.

Our masculine hair care and grooming series received a new design and was renamed Black Xclusive. That same year, Hemp Wax from the series won the prize for Men's Product of the Year at the Danish Beauty Award.

2023 is an exciting year for us at IdHAIR with the launch of three new series. Curly Xclusive was developed to meet the growing interest in a special treatment for curly hair, namely the Curly Girl method. Our fresh styling series Me and colour-pigmented hair treatments from Colour Bomb were relaunched with new colours, designs, and formulas.
